How to Apply Your Custom Leather Patch

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Do not apply the hot iron directly onto the front surface of the patch, as direct high heat may damage or discolor the patch. Always use a covering cloth.

Option 1: Using a Home Iron

1. Prep the Surface: Ensure the garment (hat, jacket, bag) is clean, dry, and free of wrinkles.
2. Remove Backing: Carefully peel off the protective paper/film from the adhesive (back) side of the leather patch.
3. Position the Patch: Place your leather patch exactly where you want it on the item.
4. Cover It Up: Cover the patch with a piece of parchment paper, a thin cotton cloth, or a pillowcase. This protects the patch from direct heat.
5. Heat Your Iron: Set your iron to medium-high heat (usually the Cotton or Wool setting). Turn off the steam.
6. Apply Pressure: Press the iron firmly down over the covered patch. Hold it steady for 30–45 seconds. Do not slide the iron around; just press down.
7. Check the Bond: Let it cool for a minute. Gently check the edges. If they are not stuck down, cover and press again for another 10–15 seconds.
8. Final Seal (Optional but Recommended): Turn the garment inside out (if possible) and iron the back of the patch area for 15 seconds to pull the glue into the fabric.

Option 2: Using a Heat Press

1. Temperature: Set your press to 285°F – 300°F (140°C – 150°C).
2. Prep: Pre-press your garment for 3 seconds to remove moisture.
3. Remove Backing: Carefully peel off the protective paper/film from the adhesive (back) side of the leather patch.
4. Position: Place the patch on the garment.
5. Cover: Cover with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet.
6. Press: Apply medium pressure for 15–20 seconds.
7. Cool: Let the patch cool down completely before handling to ensure the adhesive cures.

Care Instructions:

• Allow the adhesive to cure for 24 hours before washing.
• Hand wash or wash on a gentle cycle in cold water.

Air dry only. Do not put patches in a hot dryer, as the heat can reactivate the glue and cause the patch to peel.

What file types work best for laser engraved patches?

Vector files such as AI, SVG, or PDF provide the cleanest and sharpest engraving results. High-resolution PNG files also work well. Simple, high-contrast designs engrave best for crisp detail.
